I am phenomenally short sighted. About a minus 7.5 for those who know. I was very lucky though to be able to have an eye operation about 9 years ago to give me implantable contact lenses, which is exactly what it sounds like - lenses that are surgically placed INSIDE your eye. This was pretty life changing for me, when I'd been wearing glasses and contact lenses all my life - to be able to throw away your glasses is absolutely amazing! So I'm no stranger to eye problems (mostly issues related to prolonged contact lens wear), but on Sunday I did a real doozy to myself. I got some makeup or something in my right eye. Normally it just flushes out right? Nope. Pulled my top eyelid down over the bottom one, several times. Nope, still not coming out. Flushed it out with drops. Turned my top eyelid inside out, couldn't see anything! I was running late for a kids party with miss 6, so I left, thinking it would sort itself out or I would keep trying. Instead I rubbed my eye for 2 hours, and gave myself a pretty nasty corneal abrasion. By the time I got home, my eyelid was red and swollen and I had big fat tears running down my right cheek. My husband had a look and removed the tiniest speck of mascara or something, but by then the damage was done. I went to the optometrist on Monday and she said the surface of my eye looked like someone had attacked it with a scouring pad! 4 days on and its finally starting to feel better, although still really sensitive to light, which makes it hard to stare at the computer screen for editing for long periods. A very valuable lesson learned! Kelly's family shoot: This is the second time I have done a family shoot for Kelly, and its so wonderful to be able to see the kids grow and their little personalities emerge over time! Kelly's mum was visiting from overseas and it was so special to be able to capture this beautiful time between the generations of girls in this family. And how gorgeous are these two? Thank you to these gorgeous ladies for allowing me to preserve these memories for you!
