I WILL stop talking about it... and Tamborine Maternity, and in-home newborn portrait session8/7/2018 I've been chuckling at myself the last few days, because in the space of one week, each time I've spoken to someone, I've managed to work in the words "half marathon" into every conversation. Example: Me: "Ouch, my leg hurts" Other person: "Oh are you ok?" Me: "Oh, yeah its ok, I just because I ran a half marathon on Sunday..." I do apologise to everyone I've spoken to this last week... its like when you've had a baby, you cant stop talking about it, about how painful the experience was, about how euphoric you felt at the end, about every single muscle ache, about all the minute, intricate details of the whole journey... This race was a big deal to me. I didn't actually realise HOW much of a big deal it was until I crossed that finish line and bawled like a baby. My hamstring seized up at about 15km in, so the last quarter of the race was more like a hobble. There were lots of walk breaks, there was lots of pain. That last 1km was agony and seemed to take FOREVER. But I never once considered not finishing it. I never thought I wouldn't make it. I knew my team mates were all finishing ahead of me, in much more respectable times, but it didn't matter. All that mattered was that I finished. And I did. All 21.1km of it. And I'm a bit proud of that. But I do understand that I don't need to keep going on about it. So I'm publicly announcing this now, I promise I will stop talking about it. Eventually haha :) When Deep and Sidhu came for their maternity session at Tamborine, I could really feel the excitement from this beautiful couple! They were just days away from meeting their long-awaited baby, what a magical time in their lives! There is just nothing like this excitement of knowing that you're "soon to be 3!" Soon after, beautiful miss Amroz arrived! This newborn session was held in the comfort of their own home so they could relax and go about their day - it was lovely to include Amroz's grandmother in the session as well! Here are some of the favourites from their session: If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

Miss 8 has suddenly become the fountain of knowledge in our house, and quite frankly its making me feel inadequate! Its like the time we were watching Millionaire Hotseat and a question came up about Pablo Picasso. We were staring blankly at the TV when miss 8 pipes up: "Hmm, Pablo Picasso - wasn't he the inventor of cubism?" Hubby and I looked at each other and laughed! "Um, I have no idea!!". So we googled it, and yes, wouldn't you know it, he was the co-founder of the Cubist movement!! She is full of interesting information at the moment. I was getting something out of the oven the other day, using my rubber/plastic oven mitt - so she then told me all about thermal conductivity and that plastic was a good choice of material for an oven glove. Then I got a lesson on various materials that conduct heat - although her theory that a wooden oven glove would be awesome because of its low heat conductivity, has some obvious flaws! So when she asked me this week if I learned about "Alliteration" when I was at school, my first thought was "Shit! Whats alliteration again?" I had to confess I couldn't quite remember exactly what it was... but never fear, she was ready with pen and paper to give me some good examples that she'd learned. For the record (and for those who've also forgotten) - here's an example: Lazy Lizards Lying or Betty Botter bought some butter Do you have a smarty-pants at your place? Leonie and Kris came for their maternity session at Tamborine earlier this year, and what a gorgeous couple they are! It was beautiful to see so much happiness and excitement in their eyes as they awaited the arrival of their little one, gender unknown! Here are some of the favourites from this session: And then came the arrival of a beautiful baby girl, Heidi! Leonie chose to do the newborn session in the comfort of their own home, which is a great option if you'd like to be able to relax in your own environment, and be free to put on a load of washing or make some lunch while you wait! Heidi was 9 days old at her session - with just the most perfect little face, and she did everything I asked of her and more, she was amazing! I have also added a before-editing/after-editing image at the bottom of this post, for those who like to see how these images come together. Leonie says: "We had our maternity and newborn shoots with Hilary. Hilary was awesome to work with and was amazing with our little girl! We are so happy with how the photos turned out. Thank you!" Thank you guys, it was so lovely to meet you all! Things have been a little bit hectic around here lately and its been a while since I've had a chance to pop up a blog post - so I'm even more behind in blogging than I should be! I'm currently spending a few quiet, child-free hours on a Sunday by updating two months of work in MYOB (ugh, the joys of us both being self-employed...) getting stuck into my editing backlog, and updating my blog! Sarah, Mark and their beautiful kids came for a mini maternity session at Tamborine late last year, and we had absolutely glorious weather! My husband always like to keep the grass freshly mowed down in the back paddock, but I must admit I do like it when he HASN'T mowed, for that slightly longer, more rural feel as we had in this session. Love those gorgeous smiles from little Cora and Gus too, as they played in the afternoon sun. And then not longer afterwards, I got to meet cute little Teddy for his newborn session. The session was not without its hurdles though - a big storm rolled through the night before and we lost power, along with thousands of others in the neighbourhood. Thank goodness we have a big generator, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to do this session as planned. It was a hot and sticky day, but we were able to keep the studio at a nice comfortable temperature for everyone. Teddy -7 days old: We took our sheltered "country" kids for a day out in the big smoke last weekend... the day was originally going to be a beach day, but the showery weather saw us change our minds at the last moment and head to the city instead. We've always talked about taking them on a Citycat to see the city from the river perspective, and we finally did it! Miss 8 just loved being able to see the skyscrapers up close... she wears her excitement on her face and she was beaming. The ferry ride was a little fear that she needed to overcome (she's seen too many episodes of 'River Monsters' and heard too many stories of Bull Sharks in rivers) - but after the initial tears, she had the time of her life! Master 6 loved the river... loved the wind in his hair and loved pointing out all the cranes on the top of highrises. After getting caught in the rain, it was a quick bite to eat and then off to explore the museum for the afternoon. The kids are at a great age to enjoy these experiences, we really need to do this more often! We were blessed with some absolutely stunning afternoon light for Thayz's maternity session here at Tamborine! This gorgeous mumma was absolutely glowing - it was so much fun capturing her with these handsome boys... and these matching Celtics shirts at the end of the session was so cool, especially including a tiny little green romper for bub number 3! Then before too long, their handsome little Samuel was here! So that the boys could play with their own toys when they weren't needed, we shot Thayz's newborn session in the comfort of their own home - although it was such a stinking hot day, it was difficult to be comfortable anywhere! Thank you also to Thayz for a little "behind the scenes" shot while I was working too (see below). The 3 young boys did so well under such sticky, humid conditions and we managed to capture some lovely family images for the family to treasure. Thayz says: "Booked a maternity and newborn photo session with Hilary. Can't praise her work enough. She was very patient with both our boys (4 and 1 yr olds) during the maternity session. The newborn shoot was in our house, the day couldn't be hotter! Our 1 yr old was in the worst mood possible and Hilary was the most understanding photographer on Earth that day! If you think newborns are hard to photograph, well....siblings aren't easier! How she managed to get a photo with him not screaming is beyond me! Will definitely hire her services again if needed!" Thank you so much, Simpson Family!! Confession - its been 12 months since my last hair cut. My hair grows so slowly, and is so fine, that I can usually get away with many months between hairdresser visits. But I always know when my hair is getting TOO long, because it simply lives in a permanent pony tail. Also, I start leaving trails of random loose hair everywhere. In the bathroom, on my back ("IS THERE A HAIR ON ME?") and apparently, in every single meal that I cook for my husband. So it was long overdue for a chop. Unfortunately, I went a bit too short this time, shorter than I wanted, anyway. Hubby likes it a bit longer, and so it took him a few days to mention it - no doubt choosing his words wisely before saying anything. Master 6 isn't a fan either. He looked at me in despair - "Mummy? Why did you cut all your hair off?" "Um because I wanted to! Why, don't you like it?" He shook his head shyly, and looked sad. Miss 8 cant understand why ANYONE would want to cut their hair - doesn't everyone want long long hair like Rapunzel? Oh well - given the speed in which my hair grows, it should be looking just about right in 3-4 months time! I'm lucky enough to get to meet some beautiful people in my job, and Natalie, Tim and their family were no exception! I LOVE LOVE LOVE doing maternity/newborn sessions - watching your family grow, being part of creating those memories and being able to document that for you - well its pretty special to be a part of. Natalie left some kind words in a Facebook review: "Highly Recommend Hilary, she is the most loveliest person and the most brilliant Photographer. Our family had the most amazing time building memories getting these photos taken. Thank you Hilary for delivering such perfect photos and memories of our beautiful family. We will be back for some updated pics in years to come" Here are some faves from the maternity session here at Tamborine. And then little Maisy Jae was here! Just 7 days old on the day of her in-home session, she was an absolute dream to work with and did whatever I asked of her and more! Her big brother and sister did a great job of helping mum look after her too. What a gorgeous family! Last Sunday night's storm was a bit of a doozy wasn't it? In our little part of the world, it kinda felt like a cyclone hit us. Miss 8 was squealing and quivering with fright every time a loud clap of thunder hit (although Mr 6 thought it was the coolest thing ever). We are pretty thankful right now that we didn't suffer any damage except for a few trees down - luckily nowhere near the house. So many in our neighbourhood weren't as lucky and driving down Leach Rd was like driving through a war zone. Fences smashed, gutters ripped off, power lines torn down and trees and debris all over the road... we lost power for 24 hours but that was a small inconvenience. How did you fare? And how are you coping with this heat? Will it ever end? I loved getting to know Daniela and her beautiful family during their maternity and newborn sessions... little Noah loved being thrown up in the air and being able to explore the paddock here at Tamborine while we captured some maternity memories for his gorgeous mum and dad! Sweet little Ava Grace was born just before Christmas and so was my very first newborn session of 2018! This session was held in her own home on the Gold Coast so that Daniela, Christian and big brother Noah could relax and go about their morning while I focused on capturing some beautiful memories of their precious little girl! Here are some of our favourites from the day: So another birthday went by last week... and yup I'm starting to get to the stage where we don't count them anymore! Well my lovely husband thought he'd surprise us to a bit of a day out to celebrate - and took us ice skating! I'd been a bit hesitant to go ice skating, and mainly because I used to figure skate when I was a kid. I trained for about 5 years, spent half my childhood in the rink and was absolutely devastated to have to give it up when I was 14. So it was like stepping back in time on Sunday, and I stood there on the ice thinking "When I was last here, I never ever imagined that I would be back one day, teaching my two kids how to glide and swizzle..." We all absolutely loved it - we spent the entire 3 hours laughing and giggling at the kids (and ourselves), Master 6 deciding that faster was better (despite looking like an octopus with arms and legs flailing everywhere!) and Miss 8's grin never left her face the entire time - best day ever, apparently (apart from those awful rental-skates!) And I didn't fall over once - yay me! Have you ever been ice skating? Oh I am so loving photographing all these stunning mamas-to-be, lately! There is so much beautiful excitement, nervous energy (I totally get it!) and love between couples during this amazing time in your lives, its really such a special honour to be able to capture a small piece of it. Breanna & Jared's session was held at my Tamborine property - and although the sun was playing hide and seek a little on this day, we still captured some lovely moments to treasure... And then it was time to meet this little cutie! Madden came to the studio for his newborn portrait shoot and snoozed away for most of the session - what a superstar! Thanks so much Breanna and Jared for asking me to capture these precious memories! Here's a few of the favourites: So the kids are back to school today and excited to start the new year and hang out with their friends again. For me, today means a return to some routine - I can finally get stuck into my massive "to-do" list that's been waiting for a peaceful, quiet day... a rarity over the last 6 weeks of school holidays! I've been steadily adding things to this little list over the last two months and I've got big plans this year - so its short and sweet today while I make the most of this quiet house! Kellie and Sam's maternity session was a beautiful celebration of such an exciting time in a couple's life... we had a lovely afternoon together and again we were blessed with such beautiful light, adding that stunning glow to this already gorgeous mumma-to-be... Kellie said "We absolutely love our maternity shoot photos. Hilary made us feel so comfortable and captured some beautiful moments. We cannot thank you enough and would definitely recommend you to our family and friends." And then their sweet little Aleeia Rose was here... absolutely perfect in every way. I love how she poked her tongue out at me and gave us some of the sweetest little smiles. Some of the favourites from her session: Wow, we're already a week into 2018 - hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and New Year! Our Christmas was reeeeeally busy... the whole lead up, kids off school, multiple family birthdays and lots of family & newborn sessions etc - phew I was super keen for a few days off after that! We spent a lovely Christmas Day at home, our families came to us and we had a nice lunch and swim in the pool. And this year for us, New Years was a bit of a fizzer! We had no plans so went to bed before midnight - we must be getting old!! Wishing you and your loved ones a wonderful year ahead! Steph and Keenan were blessed with some absolutely breathtaking afternoon light during their mini maternity session - and what a stunning mum-to-be Steph was! Everything about her just glowed and it was so beautiful to capture these moments for them... And then it was time to meet their beautiful baby girl!! Little miss Winter was a superstar during her newborn session in their home - sleeping through the whole shoot and looking like a gorgeous little angel in whatever we dressed her in. Steph said: " Hilary did an amazing job with our maternity and newborn shoot! She was so lovely and easy to deal with and made the whole process a wonderful experience. Hilary has such a calming nature with babies and made the newborn shoot seem so easy and the photos turned out beautifully" When doing newborn sessions in your home, its a wonderful opportunity to capture bub with the family pets too - in this case the dog was a little too excited to sit beside his new baby sister, so I created a composite image in Photoshop by merging two images together. Its been a while since we've had a puppy to contend with, but since our little Yohsi has come to be part of our family, we've had a bit of a wake-up call to just how much mischief a puppy can get into. Once they grow out of that "puppy" stage, you tend to forget all the crazy little things they do. I can no longer vacuum or mop the house without having a puppy fly at it and attack the end of the vacuum or mop, thinking its a game. Now I have to lock her in the crate just to do a clean up. Anything on the floor is fair game to her. And anything and everything is apparently edible to a 16 week old puppy. Chair legs, carpet, kids school craft, wooden Lego boxes, toys, laundry baskets, rubbish bin (and contents) - its all fun to chew and eat, but less fun for mummy to wait for her to poo it out the other end. I've spent a few nights worrying about her ending up with digestive blockages from her eating things that just aren't food! She even thinks chicken necks are to be swallowed whole, just to freak me out! But this little girl has brought so much laughter to our lives - I always thought that English Bull Terriers were a little scary looking... and yes they can have that appearance, but wow can looks be deceiving! We are absolutely LOVING this breed and quickly understanding why they are often referred to as "Clowns in dog suits" - so affectionate, boisterous, smart and loyal - oh and did I mention she is absolutely hilarious? Just wish she'd stop eating the furniture! I have been blessed and fortunate enough to capture Rebecca and her beautiful family on several occasions now, and it has been so lovely to see this little family grow over time! Little Patrick is just a joy to photograph, so cheeky and chatty and smiley all at the same time! He did everything we asked of him and more during their family/maternity session and I'm sure he will be a very attentive big brother! Then sweet little Maisie arrived, absolutely perfect in every way! Just 7 days old in these images, she nailed her newborn portrait session and even gave us a few little smirks and smiles along the way. And Patrick just loved having his photo taken with his new baby sister. Thank you so much Rebecca and Dan for asking me to capture these precious memories for you! |
