What to wear for your family photography session?
One of the most frequently asked questions! My motto is: 'Simple' is better!
Family photographs are special, a legacy for your family and future generations to enjoy.
I suggest going with loose fitting solid colours, avoiding busy patterns or logos/words. Avoid clothes with cartoon characters and logos, as these can look out of place for your family portraits and can be a distraction from your beautiful family. Stripes, checks and spots are fine as long as they are small and not distracting.
Clothes that are similar in style give a more co-ordinated look. I suggest clothing for each family member that has the same tone, not necessarily the same colour. Jeans, overalls, dresses and shorts are classics and photograph well.
Bare feet can be especially fun, and kids love it too! If shoes are preferred, please make sure they are in good shape, and not scuffed.
Consider dressing in the colour white sparingly, for this colour often reflects light strongly. Colours are preferred.
For kids, hats can be effective, as well as other accessories like scarves, cute hair clips or funky belts.
I also have on hand a few items such as kids angel wings, feather boas, floral hair clips, hats, boys tie and floral headbands that you are welcome to incorporate into the session - please request these when you book.
Clothing choices are important. As your photographer, I want you to see who your family is, and not just what outfit they were wearing. Clothing should compliment your families look, not complicate it.

We hadn't had family photos taken for so long and I'm so glad we went to Hilary to get them done!!! Hilary was so helpful and friendly and made the whole process easy and enjoyable. Some truly beautiful moments were captured that we will cherish for years to come. Thanks again
