A few weeks ago, in a burst of Christmas cheer, I decided to buy the kids their first ever gingerbread house-making kit. I'm sure we've all seen Pinterest-worthy images of cute kids making cute gingerbread houses - hours of fun, laughter and family bonding, right? Hah! I surprised the kids with the kit last weekend, thinking this would get us all in the Christmas spirit, ready to put up the tree and be jolly for the day. Well... things didn't quite go as planned. Mr 6 was more interested in eating the lollies than actually constructing the house - and while miss 7 was more into it, she lacked the skills to assemble the thing and so it all fell to me. We took the project outside to minimise the mess, and we propped and prodded the gingerbread walls, stuck them down with icing and let them merrily decorate away - until we then realised that we hadn't left any room for the gingerbread doors or the walls on the other ends. Prising apart sticky, gooey icing & gingerbread, sweat dripping, tempers flaring, ants and dogs hovering for the crumbs... well the fun, happy moment quickly soured and we struggled to put it back together again. Finally we called it "good enough", took a few photos and told the kids they could eat it. One bite and they both decided the didn't actually like gingerbread and could they just eat the lollies and icing instead? Oh well, at least we can say we tried! There is something just so lovely about maternity sessions - the excitement, the joy and the love are so special to capture. Its such a privilege to share these moments with such beautiful families! Tamara and Ross came to Tamborine for their mini maternity session (complimentary with all Newborn Sessions booked) and we were blessed with some stunning afternoon light and these lovely memories celebrating that gorgeous bump :) And then just a few weeks later, their cute little George was here! Oh so sweet and at just 13 days old, he was a little reluctant to go to sleep at first. He finally drifted off so we could capture these moments for his family. I watch my two from afar. I not only marvel at, but I also celebrate the differences between them, a boy and a girl. I don’t know if the difference is primarily due to their gender, their ages, or simply because they are two completely different human beings, but I do so love watching their personalities grow each day. It must be one of the biggest joys in a parents life: watching your child develop into an individual, a completely separate and unique human being. What a marvel, this walking, breathing, talking, complex little individual – a completely random mix of mum and dad, with a bit of their cousin and a bit of their grandparent and a bit of auntie/uncle thrown into the mix. What amazing creations, our children. Do you often look at your child and suddenly see a “flash”, a glimpse of a cousin, or an auntie, or a grandma in their sweet expression, or the turn of a head? I find that quite delicious, that sudden little flicker of someone else. That link between families is such a beautiful thing, and makes them all the more special to our dearly beloved. I'm so in love with watching my two... Have I ever told you how much I LOVE maternity/family shoots? I love that connection between a mama, her belly and the rest of the family - it makes for some beautiful, tender and emotional moments during a photo shoot. And what an amazing time in your life to celebrate! Beautiful families, creating new life and celebrating all that is wonderful - what could be better? Mel (and her bump), Craig, Ella and I had a fabulous time at the ever beautiful Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens, and isn't miss Ella just the sweetest? Thank you guys for such a beautiful morning on the mountain! Mr 4 doesn't do things by halves. Last week we had a bloody scene on our hands on the Trampoline, where he had tripped, and face-planted into one of the few bits of exposed metal on the whole structure. (seriously, there is padding almost EVERYWHERE else!) Miss 6 started shouting and we came running... The result was blood, tears, one tooth knocked clean out, and another one bent back into his mouth at a frightening angle. His mouth looked like mince meat! So the last week has seen us running around for multiple x-rays and dental appointments ,along with soft foods and cautious warnings to settle down. This week we returned to the dentist to have the second tooth removed, and he was super brave. He didn't even flinch when the needle went in (although I did, watching on, eeek!) and he handled the whole thing quite calmly and without any fuss. Now that he's had his first visit from the tooth fairy, he's thrilled! I doubt this will cause him to slow down at all, but we can always hope! Alexis and Ryan showed off their beautiful baby bump at their maternity shoot recently - doesn't she look amazing? It was so beautiful to capture the love between this gorgeous couple, as they eagerly awaited the arrival of their little girl! I was lucky enough to do the newborn shoot for this little bub once she was born too, coming up on the blog soon! Here's a snippet of our images from this day: Beautiful memories for a beautiful family! |
