I first met this beautiful family over a year ago and have been blessed to capture their maternity, newborn and now a first birthday cake smash!! Luca was just a joy to capture - those cheeky smiles as he showed us how well he's walking just melt the heart! And big sister Kaia had a great time too! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

August/September was a bit of a crazy time here - playing catch up with rescheduled sessions, lots of newborns, a massive backlog of editing and the last few weeks of school and all the events that involves... so it was kind of nice at the start of the school holidays to look ahead at my schedule and know that I was going to be able to enjoy some down-time with the kids! Day 1 of school holidays is the day I affectionately call "Pyjama Day". A deliberate quiet day. We sleep in, stay home, laze around, watch movies in our pyjamas and just unwind. The kids borrowed a bunch of books from the library so they enjoyed some reading too. This is just what we needed after all the busy-ness of the previous few weeks. The rest of the holidays have been fun - a Dreamworld Day, Movies, Shopping, catching up with friends and family - and a few more Pyjama Days thrown in, for good measure :) Recharging the batteries is just what we needed. Gearing up now for the busy run into Christmas, with Christmas Mini Sessions coming soon - still a couple of good spots left - click here for more info! Hard to believe that these gorgeous twins were just teeny tiny newborns when I last saw them! I was thrilled to be asked to capture Matilda & Xavier's 1st birthday cake smash - it was so much fun! Its always special when families return for another session, and super cool to see their little personalities start to shine too. Aren't they gorgeous? The faces they were making as they tried the cake were just priceless! Cake smash pricing is the same as my regular family session pricing and you can choose the duration and the number of images included. With this session we were able to fit in some "clean" images before the smash, the cake smash itself (hilarious!), and then some fun bubble-bath images outside afterwards! Contact me if you'd like to capture some messy fun in the studio with your little one! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

His treasure of choice was a ruler which contains a calculator on top... fitting as been caught 'borrowing' my calculator from my desk on numerous occasions (and failing to return it) - so now he has his own and he's chuffed. Of course he took it to bed with him the first night... and then to school the next day to show his mates. But the thing about him having his own calculator is that he is now the KEEPER-OF-ALL-KNOWLEDGE... and he is quite pleased with his own wisdom. Every day, several times a day, he says: "Ask me a sum that you dont know the answer to!!" Me: "hmmm - ok... 376 + 187" Mr 6, with some serious concentration, plugs in the numbers... and then proudly reveals the answer: "563!!" He also just walks past and randomly says: "Hey mummy, did you know that 23 + 12 equals 35??!!" Just wait until he learns that if he types 5318008 and turns it upside down, he can write rude words on it ;) First birthdays are always a momentous occasion - and what better way to celebrate than with a cake smash!! Mum Stacey wanted to do some outdoor family shots as well as the studio cake smash, however little Layla-Rose ended up having a bit of a cold on the day - so we cut the session short and she came back the following week to complete outdoor portion of the session. We did still manage to capture some gorgeous smiles with her pink, white and gold theme - big sister Lilly also loved sharing the cake and showing miss Layla how its done - aren't they adorable? And then the following week it was big smiles all round as everyone was feeling better! We had fun exploring outside here at Tamborine, and capturing these special moments between sweet sisters and their lovely mum... I thought that after two weeks of school holidays, that right now my kids would be well rested, happy, recharged and emotionally stable... boy was I WRONG! There have been more tears, more bickering and more attitude in the last two weeks than ever before - from BOTH of them - whats going on?? From talking to other mums, its not just my lot. But for the record, I'm talking: - Eye rolling when I ask a simple question - Emotional because the weather has cooled down and I didn't dig out their winter PJ's yet - Warning them that ipad time is almost over, and then tears when the time is up - Attitude and grumpiness when asked to help out with basic household chores - Bickering and fighting whenever they are in each other's company - Bursting into tears over the slightest little thing - Talking back Is it a full moon? Is there something in the water?? Are your kids going through this too? Whats going on??!! A cake smash is such a fun way to celebrate turning one! Little Gabriel came to the studio recently for his Mickey Mouse themed portrait session - and boy did we have some fun! You can see from these images just how much of a great time we all had - the laughter was contagious and Gabriel and his big sister Aria had a ball tucking into that beautiful Mickey Mouse cake! Mum and dad joined in the fun too, everyone loves cake, right? We then headed outside for a bathtub clean up - bubbles galore and Gabriel loved splashing the water and suds... Thanks Jasmine and Rhys for asking me to share this fun day with you! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:
Blog: What do you do with your photos Blog: Exclamation Abuse Is it just me, or is this year flying?? School holidays are upon us again and I don't know about you, but the bickering in my house started about 3 days in. I remember when I was a kid, my mum used to complain "I'm going to change my name!!" I didn't really get it then, but I certainly do now. The plaintive call of "MUU-UUUM" is familiar to all of us. Is it even possible for a kid to say "Mum" in a normal tone of voice? The older my kids get, the more I start to sound like my own mother. Here there is a constant chorus of "MUMMY! He's not sharing!" "Mummy! She pushed me!" "That's MY toy!" "I had it first!" etc etc that really begins to grate on the nerves after a while. And I really cant complain, as I only have 2 :) All you mums with lots more kids, how do you do it??! Anyway, I'm no expert but here's my favourite ways to stay sane this school holidays, with a 5 and 3 year old: 1. Keeping them busy. Be it playdates, visits to the grandparents, or taking the scooters to the park, keeping busy means less time to bicker. Also tires them out. Win. 2. Send them outside. My two have been loving the spring weather and spending time in their sandpit. Sure, they come back inside looking like filthy street urchins, but hey, whatever works. 3. Make up a big picnic to enjoy. We set ours up on a blanket outside. I chop up lots of little finger food - carrot sticks, cheese, nuts, little sandwiches, a special drink, and a couple of biscuits to finish - my two love it and it keeps them entertained for ages. The dog quite likes this too and manages to score quite a few tasty morsels :) 4. Quiet movie time at home. Favourites here include Despicable Me, Turbo, Frozen and Tangled. 5. Get them to help! I actually had a surprisingly easy grocery trip last week with both kids helping me, grabbing stuff of the shelves and helping me choose. They also love helping me cook, chopping up soft food for salads etc and helping me do the washing. Do you have any great tips to share? Especially as the kids get older? I'd love to hear them! As a balm to soothe my frazzled nerves, I had this little sweethearts session to edit this week. Miss Ellaria just loved having a WHOLE cake to herself and dived right on in! Her lovely mum brought some gorgeous little props for our set, I especially loved the dreamcatcher, isn't it fab? Oh that face!! "Is this REALLY all for me, mummy??" Ohh yes, this is great fun! The cake carnage!
This was so much fun! Thank you miss Ellaria for enjoying your cake smash session with me! I loved it! |
