Its a very special thing to be welcomed into somebody's home and be asked to capture some beautiful memories of their precious newborn baby... I know I am truly lucky to be able to do what I do and I get to meet the most wonderful people along the way. I visited Sasha and Kiernan in their home on Tamborine Mountain recently to set up my mobile studio in their living room. Sasha kindly took some "behind the scenes" photos as I worked with her super cute little man. It was also fun to create images which incorporate important family items such as the crystals and the guitar - giving these even more meaning to them. Its school holidays and I've got a bit of a backlog of editing and admin work to catch up on, so I've been careful not to over-schedule our days as I have done in the past. I've deliberately planned a few days as home days and actually wrote in my diary: 'STAY HOME'. The kids certainly need the break and the down-time too. No plans, just catch up on stuff. Monday was hectic and we ended up being out all day, but it didn't start well with both kids cranky, bickering and arguing from the moment they got out of bed. Its been getting worse lately and I think our culprit is allowing them too much ipad time lately. Both of them will sit for hours (if we let them) watching You Tube clips of kids playing computer games. I don't know why they enjoy this, instead of playing actual games themselves! But the more they watch these clips, the crankier they get and the more attitude they dish out. So the ipads have been removed, hidden, and not returned until possibly the weekend for limited time. They have not complained (much to my surprise) and instead, they have helped me tidy up, played nicely together, we have done some baking together and they've watched a movie without problem. I've even managed to get a good chunk of work done, so its a win all around! How are the school holidays going at your place? I had the pleasure of meeting this gorgeous little girl for her newborn portrait session recently - she was just 6 days old and absolutely perfect! I just love those little ruffled-bum pants too, so cute! Her beautiful mum Rici had this to say: "Hilary did an amazing job with our 6 day old daughter. So professional, yet so caring, gentle and 'motherly' at the same time. The photos were lovely and can't wait to print them and show them off. Thank you Hilary for capturing such precious moments!" Blog: No more school lunches Blog: What do you do with your photos? We took the kids to the Beaudesert Show on the weekend. Random fact about me - in my 42 years, I have never, EVER been to the Brisbane Ekka. When I was a kid, it just wasn't really in mum and dads budget and so we never went. I thought this was grossly unfair and no doubt sulked about it for days each year, as all my school friends brought in their showbags and bragged about the rides they'd been on. I figured I'd go once I was an adult, but somehow, year after year it just didn't really rate high enough on the importance scale. It sort of became a "thing" - the "I've never been to the Ekka" discussion, and then I started announcing it as some kind of tradition to be proud of! Now that the kids are a bit older, I guess we'll have to take them eventually, but for now, they are satisfied with a bit of fun at the local show. The Beauy Show was much bigger than I expected, with lots more things to see and do than just rides and showbags! Miss 7 particularly loved watching the equestrian show jumping and the circus, while I thought the panning-for-gold, and venomous snake show was pretty cool too. Hubby enjoyed watching the wood-chopping, and Master 5 thought his Dagwood Dog was the best bit of the day (along with his show-bags)! So what do you think - should I break my tradition next year and brave the actual Ekka? Hayley brought her gorgeous boys, aged 4 and just 6 weeks old to the studio recently for a mini studio session. 4 year old boys have so much energy and I loved capturing this gorgeous little personality! Its also lovely seeing the bond develop between siblings and such an honour being able to capture the memories of these early days together. So much love in these cuddles!
