I just read what I wrote in my last blog post and thought "Well... that escalated quickly!" What I thought was just a little viral bug unfortunately turned nasty and I ended up in hospital for 4 days with double pneumonia - viral. I've never been in hospital before, apart from having babies - which is generally a happy time! But being in a ward full of sick people was quite an experience. One that I'm not in any hurry to do again. My first night in the ward was quite bizarre as somehow all my vital signs deteriorated enough to trigger a "Met-call" and suddenly at 1am I had half a dozen medical people all fussing around me, taking arterial blood, hooking me up to ECG's, trying to get my temperature down, my oxygen levels up, and freaking me out. At this stage I hadn't been cleared from having Influenza yet, so anyone that approached me had to wear a mask as a precaution, which felt pretty strange! I have never suffered from asthma or any kind of breathing difficulties before, so to be unable to breathe properly, to feel so totally dependant on the oxygen was a real shock to the system. Coupled with the constant alternating fever/chills, I have never felt so unwell in my entire life. After 3 days, lots of drugs, iv fluids, nebulisers, pain killers etc I was finally taken off oxygen, and the day after that I was finally allowed to go home - yay! Recovery will take weeks I'm told - and I have to have a follow up chest x-ray in 4-6 weeks to make sure my lungs are clearing as they should. But its so good to be home and feeling somewhat normal again - and I have definitely learned that I should never take my health for granted! Perfect little Blake was in the studio recently for his newborn session with mum Bec and dad Matt! At 10 days new and 7 pounds 9oz - he was a little unsettled and windy at the start - but after that he was super sleepy and did everything I asked of him, and more. I love how he was wide awake for the family poses so we were able to get some lovely eye contact too. Thank you so much guys - I loved capturing your cute little man in these precious early days - they grow so fast! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

I've been congratulating myself for staying so healthy over the last few weeks, with both the males in the family coming down with various colds and flu... I was actually patting myself on the back for having such a good strong immune system, when - yep, you guessed it - I got sick. Not that its anything major of course, but last night I was feeling a bit shivery, VERY achey in all my muscles and joints... and a bit of a cough and a headache. Not ideal during school holidays but I guess pretty normal given how many other kids and parents seem to be sick at the moment! I'm feeling a bit better today so fingers crossed its just a short-lived virus! But I'm taking advantage of the down-time to get a blog post from this cute newborn session finished, and catch up on some editing! Aww look at this gorgeous little man - sweet little Caleb was 8 days new on the day of his newborn session and he was absolutely amazing - so sweet! I absolutely loved these colour choices from parents Kiralee & Patrick too - neutral colours with blue, and rustic nest settings. I adore this little pair of knitted overalls too - doesn't he look so cute and comfy in them? Thank you so much Kiralee and Patrick, I loved meeting your little guy! I mean, I'm in my 40's now and my parents still joke about funny little things I said as a kid. I love this so much about families, that I keep my own little book of funny things my kids say. Its one of their favourite books. The other week we were out looking in car yards, and miss 9 saw a bunch of vans lined up in a row. She looked at them and said: "FLAT?... mummy, are they called 'FLAT Cars'?" And then my husband and I started to chuckle as we realised she was looking at "Fiats". After we'd finished laughing, she then asked "So mummy, are you going to write that in the book now?" And now, whenever we see a Fiat on the road, we all say "Oh look - a FLAT car"! You know how much I love animals, right? Pets are such a big part of our lives, that I'm always thrilled when a client asks to bring along their pet to their portrait session! Natalie & Jason brought cute little bub Nathan for his newborn session, and beautiful pooch Lola got to join in the fun as well! Newborns and dogs - I really do have the best job in the world! Now - because dogs are usually too excited to sit still when they are beside their new baby sibling, these images are usually created as a composite. So we photographed Nathan on his own in the little cream drawer, then he went to mummy while Lola the dog had her turn, next to the empty prop. Add a little bit of Photoshop to stitch the two together and here (top left) is the end result... Thank you so much for sharing your morning with me to capture these precious memories! She's always full of enthusiasm to start off with, but she's been know to say that she loves the performing, but hates the practice! So its been quite a pleasant surprise to see her whip out the flute on occasion, and hear her practising away, without being asked. She's really enjoying it, and has started talking in "music-language", of what the markings on the sheet music mean and completely baffling me with all the strange words. I think its pretty amazing that after just a few months, she knows all this stuff! She even gave us a rendition of Hot Cross Buns the other week, which actually sounded pretty good. Master 7 also seems to have picked up some musical ability - he can play Baa Baa Black Sheep on the organ pretty well, having been shown a few times by Nanna - but he has informed me that when he is old enough, his musical instrument of choice is going to be... DRUMS... oh help me now!! Sweet little Ivy was just a dream to capture during her newborn portrait session in the studio recently - just look at that gorgeous little face! So tiny at just 10 days old and 6 pounds 13 oz. Thanks so much Lauren and Matt for hanging out with me in the studio - and thanks to Lauren for these beautiful words: - "I wasn’t planning on getting a newborn photo shoot, but my husband insisted. He chose Hilary Hudson and I am so happy we went ahead with it. The photos we got back were so amazing we had to upgrade our package because we couldn’t choose just 15 photos. Hilary was fantastic with our baby girl (especially when she wasn’t cooperating), friendly and also very professional. Thank you Hilary" Thank you so much guys - here are a few of the favourites from this session: If you enjoyed this, you might also like:
Blog: Why its great to be a kid... Blog: Those crazy storms... Whoops - ok its been way too long since I last posted a blog post! Things got a little crazy around here when our little Miniature Bull Terrier got sick last month - she spent a week and a half in hospital with Pancreatitis and we were all beside ourselves - coupled with school holidays and work and everything else, its been a bit hectic! Things have been pretty busy behind the scenes though, and I've got lots of awesome sessions to update here so I'll make this quick today! The first session of 2019 kicked off with the most divine little bub, Elijah, 13 days new! Super sleepy, super cute and with awesome parents like Chaz and Michael, it was a dream session! The family requested mint greens, leafy greens, cobalt blues and earthy tones - all colours that I am a bit partial to myself! Here are some of the favourites from their session: If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

A little bit reserved, dislikes people looking at him, would rather stay quiet and let his confident big sister take centre-stage and do most of the talking. Its no surprise really, I was painfully shy as a kid myself! But in the last few months, that seems to have all changed. Its like, when he turned 7, he just decided to start coming out of his shell. Gone is the little boy who clammed up when an adult asked him a question. Gone is the kid who was scared to put his hand up in class in case he got the answer wrong. And gone is the boy who burst into tears at the very mention of going up on stage at school to sing with his choir. Last week both kids travelled to the city with their school choir to perform on stage at a conference. Water off a ducks back for Miss 9, who LOVES to perform. Last year Master 7 would have become teary and emotional at the very thought of this, and opted to miss out - but this time he embraced it with open arms - he actually looked forward to it for weeks and was so excited when the big day finally came! So proud to see my little man in the front row, actually enjoying it, and buzzing to do it again soon! Its really cool when you start to see your kids' personalities develop, especially when they overcome things that have previously been a hurdle. So proud of these two! I loved having sweet little Ruby in the studio for her newborn portrait session recently. On the day of her session, Ruby was 6 weeks old - a little older than my usual newborn session which is typically done within the first 2-3 weeks, however she was absolutely amazing and we still managed to capture these sleepy, curled newborn poses without any problems. Her awesome big brother Max was a superstar too - doing everything we asked of him and more. Thank you Yasmine and Michael for spending your morning with me to capture these precious memories, and thank you miss Ruby for the cuddles! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

I don't know if its just settling back in, or the after school sport, or what. I make a solid effort to get them in bed by 7.30-8pm every night, but by morning they are ratty, crabby, cranky and eye-rolly all in one. It takes at least an hour each morning to get them going, and that's with me constantly on their case! Getting dressed in the mornings requires at least half and hour, and at least 5 reminders to stay on track. One sock will get put on, and they spend the next 5 minutes arguing with each other over something. Or rolling about on the lounge. Or cuddling the dog. Or reading something... Still with just one sock on. Does this sound familiar to you? Breakfast is another challenge entirely - don't get me started on that! Mums and dads, I'm asking you - is this happening at your place too???!!! Is there a secret to getting them ready on time in the mornings? How do you manage it? Because I'm at my wits end - any tips gratefully accepted! Little Lily came to the studio recently for her newborn session - and she was amazing!! This 14 day old sweetheart made my job so easy - she slept like a dream and did everything I asked of her, and more! I loved these colours on her too - thank you for the cuddles, little miss! Wow what a crazy few weeks its been here - getting into the swing of the new school year, after school activities and lots of newborn sessions, a few things get neglected and that usually means my blog! I've got lots of lovely sessions to share - so I'm going to get straight into it! 16 day old Dennis was such a superstar during his recent newborn session! We held the session in his home on the Gold Coast which made it a lot easier on other family members - this sleepy little man didn't even stir when his big brother and sister were playing nearby, he slept right through! Thanks so much Emina, it was awesome hanging out with you and capturing your gorgeous little man - here's just a few favourites from this session: If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

So when she'd finished all the books she'd received for Christmas and her birthday, I decided it was time to join the library. We've never been library card holders before, it was a big step, and they were quite impressed when we dropped in to our local library - it was like a revelation to them both - WOW - so many books! Master 7 is enjoying Dog Man and Ahn Do books, and miss 9 picked up a range of new Dork Diaries, books on unicorns and Magic Animal Friends. So it looks like they have both picked up mummy's love of reading, and I reckon that's a bit awesome - lets hope it continues! Rica and Dan brought their sweet little girl Kyra to the studio for their newborn session recently... Kyra was 3.5 weeks old at the time of her session - and she slept like a dream! She loved snuggling in for cuddles with mum and dad and I just loved all the pinks and neutrals we used during her session. Thank you Rica and Dan for asking me to capture these precious memories of your beautiful baby girl! Here are a few favourites from this session: What is it about that last crazy week before school holidays? My kids go a bit batty... master 7 has more energy than he knows what to do with, and miss 8 just starts crying at the least little thing. These last few weeks, she has lost the ability to tie her hair up in a ponytail - a skill that she previously had mastered and in fact, had been doing herself most of the year. This results in a flood of tears each day and a sullen car ride to school. Meanwhile master 7 just breaks things. Mostly from throwing them up in the air and attempting to catch them. "Drink bottle flip" has been banned in this household! So all I can say is "Thank goodness the school year is over"! I have three sessions this week and then its time to rest, sleep and play - it wont be long before the chaos of school routine starts again! Introducing beautiful Isabella Rose at just 13 days old... she melted me with those lovely big eyes! This gorgeous little sweetheart was a little bit reluctant to sleep at first with a bit of wind in the tummy - she was also very alert, but with lots of work from her lovely mum Felicity, we got there in the end! She got to enjoy lots of cuddle time with mum, dad Scott and proud big brother Toby too! Here are some of the favourites from this session: If you enjoyed this, you might also like:
