One thing that kids are great at, is making a damn mess. I'm getting to the point where I'm banning all forms of crafting, glittering, painting, cutting etc from the house, because I cant cope with the total destruction zone that follows! Also, invariably, any time Mr 4 gets his hands on scissors, he ends up slicing a hole in his clothes. This morning I went upstairs to find both kids sitting quietly at my computer desk. Miss 6 was writing a letter to her teacher, and Mr 4 was holding a pair of scissors, a great look of concentration on his face, as he cut something out of a piece of A4 paper which he'd swiped from my desk. Before I could even stop and think, I lost it. Yep, I yelled. I told him off - no using scissors without asking, no cutting-out in the house!! Its too dangerous, it makes too much mess - you know better! etc etc I snatched them off him and watched him calmly get out a pen, sit on the carpet and continue with his activity. It suddenly dawned on me that he'd drawn a love heart on his paper, and thats what he was cutting out with the scissors. I walked away feeling quite bad about my reaction. I felt even worse when a few minutes later, he presented me with the heart. "A love heart for you, mummy!" he said, and gave me a big hug... half had been cut out, and the other half he'd used the pen to create a dotted serrated edge so he could rip it. My love-heart, from my little love... ... and didn't I just feel like the worst mother in the world after that!! One of the (many) amazing things about my job is getting to see so many gorgeous kids as they grow and change! I first met Benji and his wonderful mum and dad last year for a family shoot at the beach, and I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to capture the momentous occasion of his 1st birthday! What an absolutely gorgeous, happy little man! I loved hanging out with him and this wonderful family! Having a photographer at your childs birthday party means you can relax and enjoy the day, without fearing that you're missing a moment. Its also a great way to get a few sneaky group family shots too! Sooo happy to be almost walking! Hope you had a great day Benji!
