Why is it that kids can be hopeless at sharing EVERYTHING, except when it comes to germs? Last week, both kids came home from school with a mild case of the sniffles. A few days of a runny nose but otherwise fine and bouncing around off the walls as usual. Quite thoughtfully, they decided to share these little germs with their mum, and I got struck down last Friday. Typically though, for me, it is lingering like a bad smell, which is ironic considering that my nose and sinuses got so stuffed up, I actually lost my sense of smell over the weekend. What I DO love though is the way my family rallies around me when I'm sick (*cough cough*)... miss 7, the ever caring and thoughtful one, spends her time decorating little love hearts, cutting them out, hanging them from dangly bits and sticking them all over the house with random little banners that read "I love you mummy" or "get better soon mummy"... The house ends up looking like its covered in paper-chains and it takes me days to take them down and I feel so guilty going from room to room removing them. Master 5 has a different strategy. Every half hour or so, he will thrust his favourite teddy in my face, demanding "here mummy, cuddle Lioney, he'll make you feel better" - will not take "no thank you" for an answer, and then he goes back to whatever he was doing, and asking for food. Half an hour later the cycle repeats. Do your little ones look after you when you're feeling sick? Having your family here to visit is a fantastic time to get some beautiful memories captured, and that's just what Bec and her family did! Jensen and Freya were joined by their little nephew Bowie at our big back paddock at Tamborine for their mini shoot, and they were absolutely amazing! It was a joy watching Jensen coaxing some beautiful smiles out of his gorgeous little sister, and Bowie was a total natural in front of the camera! Here's a few favourites from the morning... So much cuteness right there! Thanks for a wonderful morning! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

I'm aching all over right now, and I blame YOU, New Years Resolutions... Driven by slightly expanding waistlines and muffin-tops grown larger by a very social Christmas season, my husband and I decided that this year, we'd get fit... or fitter, in his case. I have been on and off the fitness train for many years, mostly sporadically since Master 5 came along, I must admit. But THIS year, well this year would be different. We decided to do it TOGETHER! I have never trained with anyone before so this decision was met with some trepidation... but I knew that our competitive spirits would work to our advantage so we're throwing ourselves into this, head first. So for the last month we have been doing Crossfit WODs (Workout of the Day, for the uninitiated) and slowly understanding the terminology. AMRAPs and EMOTM are no longer a foreign language to us, and we are getting quite well acquainted with Burpees, V-ups, power cleans and kettlebell swings. Not to mention, sweat. Buckets and buckets of sweat. Feels great to be exercising regularly again, and after just a few weeks, we're both feeling fitter and stronger, although a little sore and tired. How are you going with your New Years Resolutions? For the final day of the Kindy fundraising shoots, we had a fantastic turn-out! So many gorgeous happy families (including one beloved family dog!) I absolutely LOVED meeting so many friendly faces from the community. The weather held out for as long as possible but we did end up running for cover during the last few shoots of the day, dodging showers and making the most of little breaks in the rain while we could. Some of my favourites from the day: What a fabulous day! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:
Blog: How do you keep your kids in line? Blog: Worst Mother Award Happy New Year! Ok seriously, where have the last few weeks gone? One minute it was Christmas, and the next, the kids are about to start school. I don't know about you, but its gone really fast! Our lazy holidays have been blissful - lots of swimming, catching up with friends, riding quad bikes and days out. My husband took some time out and we enjoyed a few sleep-ins, late nights and just relaxing - its been heavenly! We've been trying to get back into some sort of routine this week though, no more late nights or sleeping in - its time to get back to normality. Next Monday will be a big day here when our littlest one embarks on his school journey - Prep! I would not say he is excited, in fact, any mention of starting at "big school" is met with a shrug of indifference. Not even new lunchboxes, book-lists arriving, new school shoes and uniform try-ons has sparked much interest. There is a little bit of anxiety going on and its caught me a bit by surprise. This is in stark contrast to miss 7, who is dying with excitement to get back to school and find out who her new teacher is for the year. Me - I'm excited for what the new year holds - its the year of big plans and working hard to achieve those dreams. I'm so looking forward to sharing a wonderful 2017 with you - I cant wait to meet many new faces this year - it is gonna be awesome! Following on from the last two blog posts (here and here) our second day of fundraising shoots on the mountain was blessed with a beautiful clear morning, sunny skies and lots of smiling, happy faces! Here's a few of my favourites from this session: I have one more day of these fabulous mini shoots to share - I absolutely LOVED meeting so many new faces from the community during these fundraising days! Until next time... If you enjoyed this, you might also like:
Blog: Naked Handstand Man... Blog: Whats your super power?... What kind of music do you and your kids listen to in the car? Do you have the Frozen CD on repeat? Or is it 'drivers choice'? I have always been determined that our kids would grow up listening to a very diverse range of music. So in the car, we listen to what I want to listen to. Sometimes that is the radio and top 40 stuff. Miss 6 likes Taylor Swift, and Mr 4 likes anything as long as a man is singing (haha). But sometimes we have a week of old CD's, and it's everything from Silverchair, U2, Hilltop Hoods, Beatles, ABBA, Kings of Leon, White Stripes & Queen . Mr 4 has taken a liking to System of a Down's "Pizza Pie" and requests it frequently. I turn the volume off quickly for any bad language, nonetheless after a particularly aggressive System of a Down song the other day, Mr 4 said "Boy, he was a bit annoyed, wasn't he mummy?" I chuckled all the way home. They giggle along to The Beatles "When I'm 64", and when we're home, Miss 6 loves to watch Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights video, over and over, followed by Katy Perry's "Roar". I want them to know and appreciate the classics, to know many different types of music, before they start to choose their preference. I know that in a few years they will start to roll their eyes at me, but for now I'm enjoying watching them sing along to whatever is going, without judgement. I recently ran a couple of mini shoot days here at our property at Tamborine, and I was lucky enough to meet so many gorgeous families on those days! Today I'm featuring the families from the Saturday session. Sonya and her family - how sweet and innocent are these two?? Such little cuties, although miss Jemma was super shy for most of the session, we still managed to coax a few little giggles and smiles out of her. I love how much fun Lana and her family were having during their shoot! Love and laughter make up a huge part of our lives, and I love capturing that with families! Bec's gorgeous family, loving those big smiles! Rebecca's family - and just look at little Patrick - he was just so adorable and LOVED the camera! Such a cutie... Thank you to all my wonderful families who made the day so much fun! I read something years ago that has always resonated with me. Imagine that it is 20 years from now and your kids are all grown up – they don’t need you any more, they are living their own lives, living their own dreams, and just don’t need you like they used to. How much would you give to be able to jump into a time-travel machine, and go back in time, to right NOW – and get to experience just 10 minutes more of your small child? 10 more minutes of having them small enough to sit on your lap and cuddle, butterfly kisses, tickle fights, games of Hide and Seek? Just 10 minutes more of them needing you, warm little bodies that just want to be picked up and held, and tucked into bed with a story at night… just 10 minutes more of the magic of believing in Santa and tooth fairies, wanting to hold your hand as you cross the road, needing you to kiss their scraped knees until they feel better… just 10 minutes more with your little one? When our kids are grown, and don’t need us any more – how much will we miss it? Everyone tells you it goes so fast, and yes I’m experiencing that first hand - no doubt we all are. This is a beautiful, magical period in my life, and I know that in time I will miss everything that is going on now, while they still need me so much. I'm trying to constantly remind myself of this. Amidst the stress and chaos, the bickering and noise, endless requests for snacks and the constant "watch this mummy!" - I'm trying to take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. Its time to be less frustrated and distracted… and just take a moment to stop and REMEMBER, that no matter how busy or tired or frazzled I might sometimes get, this time is so precious and I must not waste it! Continuing on from last weeks post, here is part 2 of our Fundraising Mini Shoots for a local kindy! These are from the afternoon session - again some families requested to not have their images shared online so you will not see those - but here are a few of my favourites from some of the other lovely families on that sunny afternoon! Kerri and her family enjoying the beautiful afternoon light! Lisa's gorgeous girls! Emma and her handsome boys! Thank you to all the wonderful families who made the day so special! Is it over yet? I have loved school holidays. I have. I've loved spending so much quality time with my amazing family. I've loved the beach visits, the road trip, the staying up late with friends, the sleep ins - and yes I'll admit that I've also loved not having to make school lunches, keep school uniforms in check and be out the door at a certain time. But you know what? We've all been in each other's company for too long now and we are all grating on each other's nerves. I'm so ready. Miss 6 has been ready to go back since before Christmas! Mr 4 starts kindergarten/pre-prep this year and I'm giddy at the thought of having 2-3 child free days each week. Sure its only about 5 hours each day, but nevertheless, the prospects of what I can achieve during that time is exhilarating. Unfortunately one of the first things I've got scheduled in is a dentist visit for some fillings! Who else is ready for school to go back? :) Catching up on blogging some mini family shoots today - first up from this session was Jess and her family. I really enjoyed these mini sessions as they were fast paced (less time for the kids to be 'over it') and I had to think quick - I love being kept on my toes! Having super cute kids to photograph helps too! Here's a few of my favourites from this session: Love how happy everyone is in this one! The second mini family shoot from this session was for the Keats family, and how gorgeous is miss Bel?! I just love that flower headband! Christine and Bailey, I love this one! Bailey went to kindergarten with my daughter so I was thrilled to be able to capture some family memories for them. A few more of my favourites from this shoot: As always, thank you to the wonderful families who put their trust in me to capture these memories!
Capturing all these lovely families lately has made me realise I don't have ANY recent photos of my own little family - we have photos of my husband and the kids, and of me with the kids, but not many with all of us! I have plans to rectify this in the next few weeks! Mums, exist in photos!
This year, coming up to Christmas, I have offered mini family shoots for the first time, and I must admit I really enjoyed them! These are a really great way to update your family photos, without the cost and time commitment of a full session. I've really enjoyed having to think quick, keep moving and capture some really lovely moments in a shorter space of time. Of course, having an awesome location really helps, this is one of my favourite local spots in the Ormeau area! The Verschuren family came along for one of my mini sessions recently, and Miss Lacey and her baby sister Paige totally rocked it! I loved chatting away to Lacey, who had so much confidence and told me lots of gorgeous stories. Paige got the giggles towards the end, which was the cutest! I've got more mini shoots to share soon - watch this space! |
