Happy New Year! We've had a lovely Christmas break plus SO many birthday celebrations, and lots of down time (although the kids are already bored) but its time to get back into it! I'm buzzing at the moment with New Years resolutions, new business goals, plans and ideas galore. I've been straight back into work too with a busy couple of weeks coming up and I'm loving it! My husband is madly working on the house extensions - anyone who has been here for a portrait session recently will have seen the extent of the work that is going on - its super exciting - more on that in coming weeks, and I promise to post a few photos of the new build too. Are you ready for 2020? Catching up on some blog posts from last years sessions - todays post is from a beautiful girly session with gorgeous little Georgia! This little sweetheart is blessed to have so much family love around her - we combined her newborn session with an extended family portrait session too - such a lovely way to celebrate her arrival! Big brother Cooper got to enjoy a few kisses and cuddles with his new sister too. Here are some of the favourites from the day: If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

I've always taken water for granted, as most people probably do. Never paid it much thought actually - you turn on the tap and its just there, an endless supply. That was of course until we moved to Tamborine and had to rely on tank water - and now I have become positively obsessed about it. Last week we only had about 30 days of water left before we completely run out. Showers have become a race - I have a 3 minute timer in there, and the challenge is on to be out before the timer finishes. Everything is done with sparing water in mind. Wash the dishes with 1/3 of a sink of water. Flush only when necessary. Wash cars and water the garden NEVER!! I cant tell you how excited we were last Saturday night when we received 4mm of rain... and then the next day, another 10mm! Hubby had the calculator out, working out the square metre-age on all our roofs and figuring out exactly how much water that gave us in the tanks. The topic of conversation at school drop offs has become "How good was that rain on the weekend?" and "How many mils did you get?" And after 3 and a half years living here, we've finally had to buy a tanker of water... and fingers crossed that gets us through until we get some decent rain! I first met Michelle, Jason and little Hudson at their maternity session at Tamborine - we had the most beautiful afternoon light and what a gorgeous family! Here are some of the favourites from this session: Not long after this, little Ashton arrived, and on his due date too, which doesn't seem to happen very often! The session was held when he was 10 days old - such a cute little man! I love the look on big brother Hudson's face in these - he loved posing with his new baby brother. Thanks guys for asking me to capture these memories for you! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

Luca was just a joy to capture - those cheeky smiles as he showed us how well he's walking just melt the heart! And big sister Kaia had a great time too! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:

As a kid, I used to long for my birthday - I couldn't wait to get older... and each one felt like it took FOREVER to get here, as I'm sure you all remember! But now I've started (some might say, deliberately) to forget my age! The other day in the car, Mr 7 asked me how old I am. I replied "I'm 43... (pause)... I think??" Miss 9 happily piped up: "Hang on mummy, I think you're 44, aren't you?" And so I started doing the maths in my head, and suddenly realised she was right, and for most of this year I've been happily going along thinking that I'm 43. AND my birthday is in January, so I'm about to turn 45! I've lost an entire year, and I'm not happy about it! I first met Emma, Dave & little Duke earlier this year for a maternity session at Tamborine - we did a mix of outdoor and studio for even more variety - such a gorgeous family and absolutely glowing mumma-to-be! Then before too long, beautiful baby Rose was here - and she is absolute perfection! These soft pretty colours really suited her perfectly. We held the session in the family home so that Duke could be in his own environment, amongst familiar things - and although he wasn't totally in the mood on the day, we managed some lovely sibling and family images in the end! Thank you Emma and Dave! So, over the school holidays, Miss 9 discovered "fashion". She has always loved clothes, but up until now, has pretty much left the purchase choices to me. Pretty dresses were her thing, anything pink, swirly and sparkly was a favourite. I remember once when she was about 5, I tried to get her to wear some shorts to a playground - she turned up her nose in disgust and said: "I'm not a BOY, mummy!" Haha - oh those were the days... I went through the kids wardrobes during the break and pulled out all the stuff that they've grown out of - this then required a shopping trip for items in bigger sizes - an incredibly painful experience for Mr 7 (who was satisfied with a couple of new T-shirts), but heaven for Miss 9 as she dragged me from shop to shop and made her own choices. Cute... but also scary how fast she is growing up. She just needs to stop pestering me for high-heels - not going to happen! Gorgeous Virinnia was so beautiful to photograph - such an angelic little face! This sweet little miss was only 11 days new on the day of her session, and she was just perfect! She did everything I asked of her and we captured some very special memories. Pinks and soft colours were requested for her session and it suited her perfectly. Mum Sarah had these kind words to say: "I can not recommend Hilary enough we are totally in love with our photos, the session was super relaxed and calm and she was amazingly patient with our squirmy newborn, couldn't have hoped for a better person to capture our little loves first days." Thank you so much for the cuddles Virinnia - and thank you Sarah and Jason for asking me to capture these precious moments for you! August/September was a bit of a crazy time here - playing catch up with rescheduled sessions, lots of newborns, a massive backlog of editing and the last few weeks of school and all the events that involves... so it was kind of nice at the start of the school holidays to look ahead at my schedule and know that I was going to be able to enjoy some down-time with the kids! Day 1 of school holidays is the day I affectionately call "Pyjama Day". A deliberate quiet day. We sleep in, stay home, laze around, watch movies in our pyjamas and just unwind. The kids borrowed a bunch of books from the library so they enjoyed some reading too. This is just what we needed after all the busy-ness of the previous few weeks. The rest of the holidays have been fun - a Dreamworld Day, Movies, Shopping, catching up with friends and family - and a few more Pyjama Days thrown in, for good measure :) Recharging the batteries is just what we needed. Gearing up now for the busy run into Christmas, with Christmas Mini Sessions coming soon - still a couple of good spots left - click here for more info! Hard to believe that these gorgeous twins were just teeny tiny newborns when I last saw them! I was thrilled to be asked to capture Matilda & Xavier's 1st birthday cake smash - it was so much fun! Its always special when families return for another session, and super cool to see their little personalities start to shine too. Aren't they gorgeous? The faces they were making as they tried the cake were just priceless! Cake smash pricing is the same as my regular family session pricing and you can choose the duration and the number of images included. With this session we were able to fit in some "clean" images before the smash, the cake smash itself (hilarious!), and then some fun bubble-bath images outside afterwards! People told me that recovery would be slow, and its been a frustrating process but I reckon I'm back at 90%. I never knew that lungs took so long to bounce back. I didn't realise that I would be coughing for a month afterwards, or feel short of breath, tight in the chest, or have dizzy spells on and off for weeks and weeks. I didn't expect that at the first little sign of a sore throat or sniffle, I would be freaking out and be constantly dosing myself with immune support supplements. Yes I'm paranoid about getting sick again, even just a cold. I even got the flu shot for the first time in my life. The week after I got home from hospital, one of my friends told me that Mr 7 had spoken in class about me being sick. I asked him about it. Me - "Were you a bit worried when mummy was in hospital?" Mr 7 - "Yeah... (pause)... I thought you might die" (spoken in a very matter-of-fact tone) Hmmm... Meanwhile Miss 9 kept getting the word "Pneumonia" mixed up with "Leukaemia"... I really hope she got that straight before she told anybody! Its been a winter of sickness in the area too, schools have been hammered and we're all a bit over it. And I've always been a lover of winter, but you know what? I'm welcoming summer with open arms this year - lets burn away all those cold and flu germs with a bit of heat and humidity! Gorgeous 9 day old Madison was SUPER sleepy during her in-home newborn session on the Gold Coast - possibly helped by the fact that it was a 40 degree day outside, so she was lovely and warm in her birthday suit! She was so happy and comfortable that she slept for the entire session and let us get all the images we wanted, and more. Big sister Charlotte was a superstar too, giving her new baby sister lots of cuddles and kisses. One big benefit of doing a newborn session in your home is that siblings can go about their day without too much disruption - toys, movies and familiar things can make them feel so much more comfortable and relaxed. School camps seem to be a bit different now to when I was a kid - back then I remember we slept in tents, crammed in with a few other girls... in fact my first memory of school camp is spending a very uncomfortable night on an air mattress which kept deflating during the night - I would get up and hand pump it back up, only to have it gradually deflate again! The food at miss 9's camp seems to have been far superior than mine too - she was treated to cakes and slices for morning tea, ice cream every night after dinner and bacon each morning for breakfast! My first camp featured a sweaty chef sporting a stained Bonds singlet (complete with armpit hair hanging out), ants in the salad and pubic hair in the pizza - ewwwww! Anyway they had an amazing time - archery, canoeing, flying fox and a high ropes course, bushwalking, camp skills and damper making, animal feeding and reptile show... I'm actually quite jealous, it sounds like a fantastic holiday to me - sign me up for next year! Beautiful little Adeline was amazing in the studio for her newborn session! She really suited these soft colours and tones - and she looks so sweet nestled in with flowers and feathers! Adeline was 18 days new on the day of her session and she was lovely and sleepy for the majority of the time - so cute! Thank you for the cuddles, little one! What I thought was just a little viral bug unfortunately turned nasty and I ended up in hospital for 4 days with double pneumonia - viral. I've never been in hospital before, apart from having babies - which is generally a happy time! But being in a ward full of sick people was quite an experience. One that I'm not in any hurry to do again. My first night in the ward was quite bizarre as somehow all my vital signs deteriorated enough to trigger a "Met-call" and suddenly at 1am I had half a dozen medical people all fussing around me, taking arterial blood, hooking me up to ECG's, trying to get my temperature down, my oxygen levels up, and freaking me out. At this stage I hadn't been cleared from having Influenza yet, so anyone that approached me had to wear a mask as a precaution, which felt pretty strange! I have never suffered from asthma or any kind of breathing difficulties before, so to be unable to breathe properly, to feel so totally dependant on the oxygen was a real shock to the system. Coupled with the constant alternating fever/chills, I have never felt so unwell in my entire life. After 3 days, lots of drugs, iv fluids, nebulisers, pain killers etc I was finally taken off oxygen, and the day after that I was finally allowed to go home - yay! Recovery will take weeks I'm told - and I have to have a follow up chest x-ray in 4-6 weeks to make sure my lungs are clearing as they should. But its so good to be home and feeling somewhat normal again - and I have definitely learned that I should never take my health for granted! Perfect little Blake was in the studio recently for his newborn session with mum Bec and dad Matt! At 10 days new and 7 pounds 9oz - he was a little unsettled and windy at the start - but after that he was super sleepy and did everything I asked of him, and more. I love how he was wide awake for the family poses so we were able to get some lovely eye contact too. Thank you so much guys - I loved capturing your cute little man in these precious early days - they grow so fast! If you enjoyed this, you might also like:
Blog: They're only little for a little while... Blog: Old movies... I've been congratulating myself for staying so healthy over the last few weeks, with both the males in the family coming down with various colds and flu... I was actually patting myself on the back for having such a good strong immune system, when - yep, you guessed it - I got sick. Not that its anything major of course, but last night I was feeling a bit shivery, VERY achey in all my muscles and joints... and a bit of a cough and a headache. Not ideal during school holidays but I guess pretty normal given how many other kids and parents seem to be sick at the moment! I'm feeling a bit better today so fingers crossed its just a short-lived virus! But I'm taking advantage of the down-time to get a blog post from this cute newborn session finished, and catch up on some editing! Aww look at this gorgeous little man - sweet little Caleb was 8 days new on the day of his newborn session and he was absolutely amazing - so sweet! I absolutely loved these colour choices from parents Kiralee & Patrick too - neutral colours with blue, and rustic nest settings. I adore this little pair of knitted overalls too - doesn't he look so cute and comfy in them? Thank you so much Kiralee and Patrick, I loved meeting your little guy!
